More about Chrysalis Blooms:

When Lisa Joyce sneaks out, it isn’t a boy or her friends she goes to meet, but nightmares brought to life…

In a world where monsters and demons roam the night, preying on the innocent, it is Lisa’s duty to fight the darkness. The responsibility was inherited, but even so, she can’t begin to comprehend the magnitude of the life that lies before her.

As an outsider who never quite fits in, Lisa is different. She is stronger and faster than everyone else, and her heightened senses grant her unusual abilities. They are the perfect gifts for a monster hunter, but nothing but a curse for a girl trying to find her place in high school.

When the demon realm of Netharia and the mortal realm collide, it’s down to Lisa to solve the mystery before it’s too late. With the monsters roaming free in Fisher Creek, Lisa soon finds herself alone against the hordes, her friends trapped beyond the veil, lost in another world.

ATH: Webisodes Incoming

While everyone is being patient and waiting for the second book in the A Thousand Hearts series I’ve decided to fill in some of the gaps with a weekly ‘Webisode’. Basically these will be short snippets that take place between book one and two. Hopefully these will satisfy peoples hunger as I finish off the second book.

Speaking of the second book, things are coming along well. I’m going to get a deadline sorted and I’ll post the update once I have a date. Look forward to sharing the first glimpses of the story with you all this coming Friday!

Second Chance Available Today

Morning all! Well today is the launch day for my short story Second Chance. It was originally a nanowrimo project that I’ve worked on and takes a different path to my normal writing, focusing on a supernatural romance genre. The blurb is below and if you like the sound of it then give it a read.

After her near death experience, Hannah’s life will never be the same. She is the only one who can see James, the man who saved her from certain death with his own life.

Unsure if she is losing her mind, Hannah sets out with James to discover the truth, seeking to understand why he hasn’t moved on. However, something is coming for him, or so they think.

In what soon becomes a race against time, Hannah finds herself desperately searching for a way to help James, reluctantly falling for him with each passing day, even though she knows it can never be…

Camp NaNoWriMo

Well I’ve just joined up to participate in this years Camp NaNoWriMo. I’ll be working on a separate project, Second Chance, leaving A Thousand Hearts to its usual schedule. This is the first time I’ve done anything related to NaNoWriMo and I’m looking forward to it.

So a little bit about Second Chance. It’s a slightly different type of book to what I’ve been writing previously, focusing on the romance storyline more than the adventure. The basics are that a guy saves a girl, the guy dies in the process, but his spirit is left behind. I’m looking forward to writing it, and hopefully the end result will be as interesting as what’s in my head right now.

Progress so far

Well it’s almost been a month of being published and so far so good! Feedback from the book is great, glad everyone who has read it has been enjoying my story so far.

A Thousand Hearts broke into the top 10k selling books, not sure if that’s a great achievement in terms of sales but I’m pretty happy considering the huge number of books selling out there.

Onto the second book in the series, Fallen. I’m 10% of the way through the first draft so I’m on schedule so it shouldn’t be too long until the book is ready for my beta readers. Everything is on track to have the second book ready to be published this year so fingers crossed nothing huge comes up and interrupts the writing process, it has been known to happen to me in the past 😛

As always, if you haven’t checked out my first book yet, take a peek at the following links!

Thanks for reading.

Second Book

The plan for the second book in the ‘A Thousand Hearts’ series is complete. Writing will begin today and my schedule is jam packed with time planned for writing this book so expect a faster turn around! The title for the second book is ‘Fallen’, focusing on a new era for the Guild and it’s members.

As always I’ll keep updating you on the progress of the book but for now here is a little teaser image!

Work, play, write

If I’ve learnt one thing writing my first book it’s that I’m chaotic when it comes to writing. In fact I’m chaotic when it comes to most things but my writing seems to suffer the most.

My plan going forward is to enforce some structure, driving up efficiency of my writing. What tips do any if you writers out there have for managing your writing time effectively when also working full time?

Hope to see some ideas in the comments! 😀

Almost there

Well the complete book has now gone to my beta readers. There a few amendments I need to make but its almost ready to go off to an editor. Very excited about the completed book nearing its existence.

Made a slight amendment to the ending but after another read through I felt it needed the tweak. Things are looking good and I’m aiming for a December launch!

Let’s see how this all plays out!

The pen and the next generation

Recently I stumbled upon a problem when writing my first draft, I found myself struggling to write electronically. Now I work with tech all day long and I’m pretty fast when it comes to typing but ask me to creative write electronically and a big slab of writers block slaps me in the face.

So I’m writing by hand and it hurts. It’s been years since I’ve written anything substantial by hand. At this point I begin thinking what will happen to the pen in the next generation?

Back in school and college we had to write everything by hand so at least I have experience to fall back on but this modern day generation does everything electronically. So what does that mean for them? There will always be moments when you are forced to write by hand and I already witness far too many people stare blankly at their pen and struggle to jot anything down. That’s the generation who grew up with pen in hand.

So will the pen die out our will it stick around?

Progress

So I had a meeting with my manager yesterday and it turns out I have a lot of holiday to take which means as of the end of the week I’ll have two weeks off. That means two weeks of solid writing.

The great news is that I’ve made massive progress already and will have the first draft complete by the end of March. I’m extensive excited to see it all coming together.

I’ve just forked out on a good fountain pen as I find it next to impossible to write electronically. I use a pc at work and I’m constantly using a laptop and tablet at home but when it comes to creative writing my mind goes blank when typing. The problem is I haven’t written by hand since sixth form so my hand cramps when writing for long periods. Hence why I’ve treated myself.

As I soldier on and make progress with the writing I’m loving the art work from Rosie. It’s absolutely fantastic. Seeing my characters come to life in art form is really motivating and helping me feel who these characters are.

Rosie has been a massive help. She is always asking what a character is wearing in certain scenes and for additional descriptions. This gets me thinking and helps the characters with depth. She also threatens me if I don’t stick to my schedule!

So its all progress progress progress here! Stay tuned. It’s going to happen!
